Joyce Kasprzak honored with service award

Oakwood resident Joyce Reid Kasprzak was honored with the Cardinal Bernardin Community Service Award. In recognition of her decades of service to faith communities and Miami Valley area children, Ms. Kasprzak accepted the award Sunday, June 13, at the annual Service Award Banquet, held this year at St. Benedict the Moor Church.

The purpose of the annual banquet is to honor those people who have dedicated their lives to community service but have received little recognition. The Cardinal Joseph Louis Bernardin award recognizes those persons whose efforts have touched so many lives in our communities. This year 14 honorees were named.

Everyone nominated exemplified the epitome of sacrifice and commitment. In her current role as Executive Director of Children’s Historical Publishing, the nonprofit organization has distributed over 350,000 learning activity books to area schools. All books are created with local themes, using local artists, researchers, curriculum directors and teachers. Funded by generous grants from civic and business organizations, the Oakwood based organization is currently working on projects for Habitat for Humanity and for the Wright Dunbar Walk of Fame. Also contributing to her selection for the award is Joyce’s involvement with Holy Angels social.
